Do you think your moods are controlled by your brain chemistry or that your brain chemistry dictates your moods? Do you believe people are born with particular emotional temperaments or that they are primarily shaped by environmental factors?

I reckon it's a bit of both.
Yes I know, I'm taking the easy way out.

When you take a class or attend a big meeting, where do you prefer to sit? Up close or way back where you can make a speedy get-away? Can you force yourself to focus even when you're not interested?

Generally I sit near the front (but not in the front row) so I can hear and see well, but I'll sit on the edge of the row in case I want to leave early.  If I take notes then it's easier to focus - if I just sit there listening I zone out pretty quickly.

Do you believe in the concept of a soulmate? Do you think you've met him or her? Do you ever worry that "the one" got away?

If you broke a mirror, would you worry about bad luck even if you're not superstitious? Would you walk under a ladder or cross a black cat's path on a dare? Is there anything you're superstitious about?

Ahh, well done Geelong. I wasn't really fussed about who won, but i'm kind of happy for Geelong.  Makes up for being beated by Hawthorne last year - and I say that as a Hawthorne supporter!  I'm glad it was so close though, like a final should be!
Very suitable weather for  a final though - wet and cold and windy!

What have you done in the past day, month, or year to protect the environment? How often do you think about sustainability issues?

Being green IS easy dammit!

I'm studying environmental engineering, so I have to think about it all the time.  As or what I've done - it's an ongoing thing.  Reducing energy and water use where I can, not driving not eating meat, and voting at youthdecide!

Itchy and tired and... hyper!

Posted on 2009.09.15 at 19:58

Woke up on Friday with a horrible itchy rash all over my arms and legs.  Where did it come from, argh!  Seeing the doctor on Thursday.  I went to the chemist and got some dermaid, and I've been using sorbolene, but hopefuly the doctor will prescribe something stronger, because it's SO ITCHY!  All I can think of is that I've had an allergic reaction  to the new laundry liquid I bought.  Damn, it smelled so nice too...

I've been so tired lately, and I don't know why.  I had to quit dancing on Friday after jazz, so missed out on contemporary and hip hop, because I was so tired and spacey and felt like I was going to faint.  Probably haven't been eating properly lately, and not sleeping well either (thanks to an itchy rash!)  Falling behind in class too because I'm too tired to concentrate.  Ah well, mid semester break soon!

Speaking of dancing - my dance teacher wants me to try for so you think you can dance.  Might be fun.  I'd probably lose a whole Sunday, but even if I get rejected I'll still get to see a few kick-ass performances.  I'll think about it...

Saw the family last Sunday night for Fathers Day.  Got dad a Dr Karl book. He likes the popular science stuff, and Karl writes very well.  I've been downloading his podcasts from Triple J too - very interesting.

I didn't get up until nearly 10 today because I was just so tired.  Luckily didn't have class today - Tuesdays are my day off.  Went for a walk in the sun - didn't really wake me up. Did some study, got the groceries, did the washing... then went to body combat this evening and that gave me some energy back!  So now I'm hyper, but I'm going to want to sleep in a couple of hours!   Can't get this energy thing right!

Watching the Spearmen Experiment now.  It's not too bad actually.  It's obviously a rip-off of 20 to 1, but Magda is more entertaining and much less irritating that Bert Newton, so I don't really mind.

If an online psychic warned you not to leave home, would you cancel plans to attend a party? Would you refuse to date someone with a clashing astrological sign? In short, do you believe?

Fresh air! My room gets that "sick" smell to it...
Also, lots of rest and water, and orange juice, because everything else tastes horrible.

What a DAY!

Posted on 2009.08.31 at 20:47
Man, what a day!  Got up early to work on an assignment that was due in this afternoon.  Shouldn't leave these things to the last minute all  the time!  No tap because the teacher was sick.  Went to Le Bop - love that little class!  Then did Body Combat - we're doing 41 now and it's AWESOME!  Skipped swing to work on the assignment, then met up with my assignment partner.  We worked on it frantically for a cou0ple of hours and got it finished... it's a little dodgy though.  Then the printer wouldn't work!  So we had to find another one... why do these things have to happen?!  The I did an NRG class - first time on Monday I've done NRG and Combat in one day, wooh!  Gonna be buggered tomorrow - I'm buggered now actually.  But hey, I can sleep in a bit on Tuesdays.

So, a brief update on everything...

Still doing dancing, of course.  My dance teacher wants me to audition for so you think you can dance!  That would be cool.  she recommended at least trying a few professional classes or finding a few random auditions to go to.  These days you don't have to be a full-time prima ballerina to be involved with a dance agency, so I could give it a go.  Might try an advanced class at The Space tomorrow if I'm not to sore - if not there's another one on Thursday.  I'm doing jazz and contemporary on Fridays, with the occassional ballet class to if I feel like i can afford to miss my lecture!  Ah, there I go prioritising dance over study again...

Classes are going pretty well. A bit behind, but no more than is normal at this time of semester.  I finally applied for some vac work.  really want to get a place with Goulburn Murray Water.

I got sick for the first time this winter a couple of weeks ago.  I was really pissed off, because it meant I had to miss the Le Bop Social!

Ah, that will do for now.  Back to watching good News Week!

Have you ever fasted or done a cleanse?

View 507 Answers

I've fasted for the 40 hour famine...

Most  "cleanses" are bullshit in my opinion.  Especially thing like the lemon detox diet, where you buy their detox drink and just drink that for a week or whatever. Plus, given my history of anorexia, I don't think it would be wise for me to start doing cleanses.

To be honest, I'm amazed that some people care so much about the mundane aspects of celebrities' lives... who cares if they go to the supermarket with their kid, wearing a pair of sloppy tracksuit pants? Why is this noteworthy?

So much to update on!

Last Sunday was open day at Monash.  Monash Dancesport was one of the few clubs to have a stall there, and I went down to help out for a couple of hours.  We had a few enthusiastic responses from year 11 and 12 students, which was a good sign.  Might see them next year!  Emily came to the open day, since she's looking at doing a course next year.  The day actually worked out perfectly: Emily went to open day, and also happened to be playing tennis nearby that afternoon.  Monday was mum's birthday, so after tennis they came back to Monash and we all went out for an early tea!  For the first time on Sunday too, I did NRG AND BodyCombat!  Woohoo!

I got mum an oil and reed smelly-thing for her birthday (and got a new one for my room while I was at it), plus some hand cream from Lush.  We went out to some place in Glen Waverley, which turned out to be really nice.  I got some stuffed baked eggplant thingy.

My final dance classes with Monash this year are tap, le bop, swing, and jazz.  My old tap shoes still fit me!  Le Bop is lots of fun, especially since there's only three of us in the class, who are all experienced dancers, so we can move through it quickly.  Our next social looks like it will be Le Bop too.  I'm still bummed about only being able to do jazz on Fridays this semester.. but hey, gives me more money to try other classes!  I'm still  loving jazz though.

Speaking of dancing... my friend from dance took me Go Go dancing on Tuesday night.  So much fun!  It was at the Bendigo Hotel in Collingwood, and the teacher was hilarious - it was part dance-lesson and part comedy show!

Only the third week of semester and already stressing over assignments. AARgh!

I is tired

Good day today!

My subjects are actually looking pretty awesome.  Even touhe business one.  The first class was all about the State of the Environment Report, and you know what was really cool - one of the graphs I made for the report during my work placement last year was featured on one of the lecture slides!  So I had a little squee moment...

Had a killer NRG class on Sunday morning.  There's no class afterwards, so we ended up going for nearly an hour and a half!  I still made myself go to body combat today, and I survived!  It was a difficult one though.  At one stage I found myself thinking, "now, if i am sick, am I better off going in the bin or running to the toilet?" (I wasn't sick!)

Had dancing too.  Tap will be better once I find my shoes.  Le Bop was pretty cool.  I'm in the intermediate class because I can't make it to the beginner one, but since there's only one person in the entire club who has done le bop before, it's more a beginner/intermediate class.  So there were just three of us, two girls and one guy, plus the two instructors.  The guy has done le bop before (he's the one who got them teaching at Monash), and the girl has done dancing before too, so we're both able to pick it up quickly.  So at the moment they'e teaching us beginner stuff, but at a fast pace.  I like it!  It's advertised as "modern jive."  I kind of think of it as like swing, but more elegant.  You do it to modern music, too.

Watching "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader" right now.  Relieved to say that I know most of the answers.  But still not sure how the fuck the game works!

Hmm, I'd probably go for Thai, since they seem to have a lot of vegetarian options.  I have no idea what a Thai breakfast is though!

Second semester started this week.  My classes are looking pretty good.  Not looking forward to four hours of urban water on Friday though... and it means I can't do all the Friday dance classes anymore!

I tried out a few of the other dance classes on Monday - tap, le bop and inter swing.  Reckon I'll enrol in them all!

Did three gym classes again today.  Pilates, tri-fit and Body Attack.  Thought about doing Body Combat too, because I still had a fair bit of energy, but then though no, I still want to be able to walk tomorrow.  I've already "damaged" my new shoes though - I had a blister on my toe and the blood has soaked through to the outside of the shoe!

I'm relieved because I've got a library shift for Thursday nights.  Couldn't do Tuesdays anymore because of class in Caulfield.  Thank god someone was able to swap!

My friend from dancing wants me to go go-go dancing with sometime. Reckon I should?
